Positive Youth Development Coalition

The Positive Youth Development Coalition's mission is to help the youth in Tillamook to establish alternative methods in order to reduce the use of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol through the support and implementation of prevention and treatment programs throughout the community. Although our focus is on youth, we will not exclude the responsibility to also help adult’s foster healthy choices.
Our goals are to reduce underage alcohol and
tobacco use and to educate parents and the community regarding underage drinking, tobacco and drug use.
Coalition Activities over the past year: Looking back, January 2008 to January 2009
January, 2008
The Coalition was formed.
29 community members present at this first meeting.
Formed a youth A & D group at East school and the Junior high school.
February, 2008
Alcohol and Drug survey distributed throughout community.
April, 2008
Alcohol awareness week at East Elementary School.
T-shirts made by the Junior high group.
May, 2008
Sponsored an Underage Drinking Town Hall Meeting with over 100 participants.
July, 2008
Coalition supports the Tillamook Juvenile Department.
As of July 1st, all minor in possession of alcohol or less than 1 ounce of marijuana referrals to Tillamook Juvenile Department will have a petition field and taken to court. If found within the jurisdiction, youth will be ordered to complete substance abuse assessment, do community service, attend MADD victims panel, and have their driving privileges suspended.

October, 2008
Alcohol & Drug Survey results make front page of headlight herald 2 weeks in a row.
The Coalition was nominated for the Futures Council’s Health and Human Services category.
November, 2008
Had tables with alcohol & drug information at parent teacher conferences.
