Parenting Classes

The goal of Positive Parenting is to teach parents new skills on how to communicate with their children in a positive way. If we as parents use the skills of encouragement, proper direction, appropriate incentives, and limit setting we can often eliminate negative or undesirable behavior from our children. It is our goal as facilitators to teach parents these tools and how to use them in an effective way and to teach understanding of discipline to parents so they have more options when limits do need to be set. With different tools of discipline such as more effective time outs, privilege loss, adding chores and others, the family environment grows healthier because the stress between parent and child is greatly reduced. These tools will also teach children to set their own internal boundaries and be responsible for their own behavior.
Parents come to Positive Parenting with many different needs like getting children ready for bed or up for school on time, another parent may want to learn a different way of dealing with their child’s negative behavior, we work with each parent using the tools of PP so they have more options on how to deal with these needs on their own. The tools of Positive Parenting are useful to any parent with children ages preschool through 5th grade.
Positive Parenting is a 6 week, 1 ˝ hour class with free childcare and dinner.
Incredible Infants

Come meet other parents and share your frustrations, worries, joys, and fears while getting the support, knowledge, and encouragement you need! Incredible Infants is a new parenting group that teaches parents how to meet their baby’s needs, how to take care of their selves, how families can work together while caring for the baby, and how baby’s develop over their first year of life.
Wonderful Ones

Parenting a one year old is an exciting, challenging experience for most parents. Your child is learning so much everyday as they explore their world, sharing their discoveries, their joys, and their frustrations. The Wonderful Ones class is a time for parents to spend time together learning more about the world of their child: Their developmental stage, their individual differences, and why they do what they do.
Terrific Twos

Two year olds are at a magical age, eager to learn and excited about all they already know and can do. Two’s are positively motivated in their behavior, and we can help them learn positive ways to get their needs met. They also experience great frustration, joy, anger, and happiness—all at once. This may cause their behavior to change at a moments notice. Learn and grow with other parents as you learn about the types of ways to positively parent and help your child through the terrific two’s.

Parenting teens and pre-teens is hard to do. Strengthening Families is a new class that will teach the parent or caregiver what to expect from their teenager, over a dozen tools for effectively parenting, how to set limits, and more. Strengthening Families will also teach the teenager how to resist peer pressure, how to handle angry feelings and manage stress better, how to choose positive friends, and how to appreciate all their parents/caregivers do for them. This is a class for the whole family to attend together, not just the parents or caregiver. During the first hour, the parents/caregivers and teenagers are separated into different classes and during the second hour, they come together into a family class where they learn about family values, respect for each other, how to work together, how to listen, and how to play and laugh together.
Strengthening Families is a 7 week, 2 hour class with free childcare and dinner.

Active Parenting
The impact of major loss on a child, whether by
death, divorce, removal from parent, remarriage, or other family changes
creates a deep wound that requires healing. Without healing, children often
act out their pain through misbehavior, depression or physical ailments. Active
Parenting was designed primarily with stepfamilies in mind, but is also helpful
for foster parents, single parents, parents going through divorce,
Grandparents raising Grandchildren and other families affected by loss and
change. The six 2 hour sessions go over: Forming a new family,
Communication, Loyalties & values, Discipline, Power struggles & encouragement,
and Celebrating success. This is for parents with children of all ages.
